This morning when I woke up I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself in to. It was my day off so me and bff Haylee wanted to do something fun and adventurous. I guess it's not too early to say be careful what you wish for.
We both have a tube and we love to go to the lake and river and just float. We thought we'd go up to Springdale and float down the river then go to Blondies and eat lunch. Seems harmless enough, right? Yeah well wrong.
We got up to Springdale and realized we had no idea where we were going. So unbelievably typical. When we finally found the river, it was a little on the brown side. Like if I had to compare it to something, it would definitely be Willy Wonka's chocolate river. But like browner. Apparently rain does that to rivers, who even knew. We still wanted to float on our tubes though so we decided we'd just go eat and then find somewhere else to float.
We rolled into Blondies and walked in. It was alarmingly close to one million degrees in there, but we got seated anyways. It was super endearing because our waitress was an extremely tired mother, and you could tell she was just having one of those days. How could we tell you may be wondering? Oh just because she was carrying her baby, snot dripping nose and all, around on her hip while she carried our food to us. A health inspector would have had a freaking hay day. My personal favorite part of the meal was when we looked over and saw her feeding the baby the remnants of our shakes. Classic.
After lunch we brainstormed about where we could go. We decided on Kolob reservoir. Haylee had a little less than a quarter tank of gas, but we figured we could make it, especially since Haylee kept insisting that she knew for a fact there was a gas station up there. I couldn't recall ever seeing such a thing, but she was so sure that I just went with it. We got up to the lake and actually did have a lot of fun.
This was taken when we still had some hope for the day. We had no idea what was coming.
It was perfect for about an hour, then we decided it was time to go.
The road we took to get to where we were was really smooth, even though it was dirt, so we figured it would be fine to keep going around the lake on the same road. We were fine for about a mile and then we came up on some mud. It wasn't too bad and with a little navigation we were able to make it through fine. We came up on another rough patch, a little sketchier than the first. Then we came up on this camp of about 25 boys, all about our age. All so attractive.
This is basically when it went bad. Long story short, the road got so bad that we decided we should turn around and go back the other way. We got turned around after about a half an hour of me carefully guiding Haylee out while standing in a hill of fire ants. But when we were almost out, the tire slid and we got stuck. We tried to get out for a while but we realized we were gonna need some help.
Long story short, we had to walk back to the camp of hotties and get them to pull us out, while simultaneously stopping every car that passed us so they could gawk.
The guy in the blue shirt there was really such a gem.
This picture doesn't do it justice, but the car is actually hanging off about a ten foot cliff. I had to climb out the drivers side to get out.
This picture cracks me up because this guy literally had no idea what was going on, but he was so nice and such a champ. A for effort.
They finally got us hooked up to chains and pulled us out with one of the guys trucks and we left. Then we had to stop at another camp and they gave us gas because again, we are disastrous fails and ran out completely.
Moral of this whole story: me and Haylee are so beyond stupid. But people are so beyond kind and helpful. There was really nothing we could do to besides say thank you, but karma has some good things in store for those people that were so helpful.
Today was a disaster, but it was actually hilarious in a way and one I will never forget!
